A Comparison: Malyen Oretsev vs Hardin Scott aka why both these characters can fucking choke

Hi and Happy Valentine’s Day! A certain trailer for a movie adaptation dropped today, so I wanted to finish up this post I’ve had in my drafts for awhile. Enjoy!

Malyen Oretsev and Hardin Scott (and probably many other manipulative “love interests”)…

  • get tattoos for their girlfriends without saying anything about it. omg. so romantic. love a manipulative back tattoo
  • have an argument/break up with their girlfriends and then immediately go get drunk af and brawl. a lot. YAY.
  • center themselves in arguments to make their girlfriends be like im sorry even though there’s nothing they should be sorry for
  • don’t let their girlfriends (sometimes when they’re not even fucking dating) go on dates/ be friends with other people/ accept political marriage proposals.
  • generally act like they’re entitled to their girlfriends because they did _________ for them. YAY (Mal has a whole speech where he’s like I nearly died for you don’t tell me you don’t love me. wow. great. I love romance)
  • treating their girlfriends like they’re a piece of property. how romantic!
  • both think the only possible reason their girlfriends might be having issues with them is because of another guy

Anyways, so those are the reasons that I think Mal (and Hardin) are toxic af. Remember, just because one person in a story is blatantly abusive and toxic, doesn’t mean that another one can’t also be just in a more subtle “nice guy” way!

I hope you’re having a great day!

So much love,

Gretal
